  • David and Colleen Patrick opened nurturing Hearts Montessori Daycare in 2012. The road to its opening began with a perceived need for quality Montessori care in the family’s Clayton Heights neighbourhood. As the search for a facility to house their vision proved challenging, the two embarked on building a home where this childcare center could be build from the ground up. With the investment and support of Colleen’s parents, Scott and Nancy Perry, the project was underway and the home was built. Both David and Scott did the bulk of the labour in creating the details of this space, from the children’s cubbies to the shoveling of pea gravel for the playground! Colleen set out to create a safe, nurturing space for children to grow and learn while their parents were at work. Nurturing Hearts Montessori was born out of a passion and respect for children’s abilities and a desire to provide families with a loving environment in which to entrust these children.

As the children and families in care grow, the needs of the families and the community do too. As a result, Colleen and David continue their search for a larger, more accommodating space. This goal to meet the needs of the children, the community and our current and new families continues.

Colleen, Co-Owner and Manager of Nurturing Hearts, is a trained Montessori Elementary teacher while David is a Firefighter for the City of Surrey. The two have five children, 2 girls and 3 boys!
